Free battery testing, charging and installation
Advance lists free battery testing and will charge an automotive or marine battery. It also tests starters and alternators for free, on or off the vehicle, for all customers. When you buy a battery, Advance says it will swap out the old one and install the new one free with purchase, in store or for online orders, and register the battery for free if your vehicle needs it. That is available for most vehicles at most locations.

Check engine light scans and other free services
- Check engine light scanning: free engine code scanning on most OBD II vehicles. Advance markets its scans under the ReliaScan name and will refer you to a technician if more diagnosis is needed.
- Wiper installation: free front and rear wiper installation with purchase.
- Oil and fluid recycling: free recycling of motor oil, transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, gear oil and power steering fluid at most stores, unless prohibited by law.
- Paint matching: nearly 300 locations mix and match custom automotive colors.
Advance Auto Parts loaner tools
Advance offers more than 100 professional tools in nine categories. Ask for the kit you need, leave a deposit covering the tool’s price, keep it for up to 45 days and return it for a full refund. Advance Rewards tiers and what they pay
Advance Rewards is free to join. New members start at 1st Gear and earn 5 points per dollar. Spend $500 in a year to reach 2nd Gear at 8 points per dollar, or $1,000 for Top Gear at 10 points per dollar. Every 500 points becomes a $5 Reward, so the program returns 5%, 8% or 10% of what you spend. Rewards expire 90 days after they are issued, and members can combine up to $100 in Rewards in the mobile app. New members also get $5 off a $20 first purchase, per the program page.
Advance Auto Parts return policy
Online and in-store purchases can be returned to any Advance store within 45 days as new: unopened, uninstalled and in the original packaging with all materials. With a receipt you are refunded to the original payment method; without one, you get a merchandise gift card at the item’s lowest selling price in the last 45 days. Opened gaskets and electrical or electronic goods are not returnable, some special orders carry a 15% restocking fee, and clearance and as-is items are final.
DieHard and Carquest prices
Advance’s house brands are DieHard for batteries and Carquest for brakes, filters and wipers. In our check, DieHard Gold batteries in Groups 35, 48 and 65 were $219.99 with a 3-year warranty, and Carquest wipers and oil filters were cheaper than AutoZone’s store-brand equivalents.
